What to Expect at Faith URC
When you come to Faith URC for a worship service, you will enter our church and be greeted by a family who wants to make you feel welcome here. They will be ready to answer your questions and show you where things are, like where to hang up your coat, or where the bathrooms and nurseries are. When you are ready to come into the sanctuary, you will see people already sitting down. Some will be looking through their bulletins. Others will be praying that the Lord will be glorified and His people edified during the service. An usher will show you to a pew and hand you a bulletin, which has our order of worship in it so that you will know what is going to take place, as well as several announcements which outline things that we can be praying for and list several of the activities of the church that we would love for you to be a part of. When you sit down, you will see in front of you a couple of song books and a Bible. Feel free to look through them and read them. We will always let you know which books we will be using during our services.
Soon, you will see several men walk into the sanctuary. These are our Elders and Deacons, men that the Lord has set apart as leaders in our church so that they could show us in their service the love and grace of Jesus Christ. Our Pastor will enter with them. He will lead us in our worship service which is a dialogue or conversation between the Lord and us. The Lord calls us to worship with His Word, and we respond by praying to Him. He blesses us and we respond in singing. He reveals His will for our lives and we respond with confession. He assures us of our forgiveness in Jesus Christ and we respond with prayer and singing. The Lord speaks His Word to us through the reading of His Word, through the use of Creeds and Confessions, and through the sermon which our Pastor preaches, and we respond in prayer, in giving thanks through our tithes and offerings, and through the praises we sing. And then, the Lord blesses us, placing His name upon us, and we leave singing praises to the glory of His name, even as we are encouraged to go out into the world with the truth of the Gospel we are so very thankful for.
After our morning worship service we gather for coffee and conversation in the Gym. In a little while there is opportunity for Sunday School and Catechism instruction, as well as for Adult Sunday School and Choir practice. And then we leave, excited to rest on the Lord's Day, and excited to return to God's house in the evening. We love the Lord's Day and the opportunity to worship and praise God's Holy Name. And we pray that you will have an opportunity to worship with us soon.
If you have any other questions about what to expect when we worship, or about what we believe, feel free to contact us.
